Episode 2…Paul Kuthe

Twenty-six-year-old Paul Kuthe is out to change the sport he loves — sea kayaking. No small goal for a season.   Last summer Paul laid out a plan to explore the Butze Rapids in northern British Columbia and put it into motion.  Paul’s relationship to paddling extends deep into his life — all the way back to the day he lost his father to the river.

Great episode! I’m trying to figure out how I could integrate The Season into my lesson plans. I find that too many kids these days don’t really have anything that drives them. Would be great to use this as a way to show them that anything is possible if you work for it. Can’t wait for the next one.

  3. I was disappointed. Some constructive criticism – need more energy, zip, in narration and music. No, it doesn’t have to be MTV but I found it was hard to stay engaged with the sleepy music and fairly monotone voice. I am a writer myself – so think about how you need to have a good opening to capture audience attention.

That was awsome I just love kayaking and the only sea kayaking I have tried were the cruise ship wakes in the puget sound. By the way the tone of the music and nararation is perfect for this piece

    Karen,
we figured a giant f#$*ing whirl pool about to swallow a kayaker counted as a lede.
Still, we tried to get Paul to light his boat on fire for added spectacle. He didn’t go for it.

    thedirtbag,

Clearly Paul has some growth potential in the “adventure” area of his self marketing :)

Great eppisode, I agree it was well paced with the death of Paul’s father being such a cenrtal part of the episode.

    Looking forward to more!

Fantastic. I love the warm, gentle, heartfelt presentation and feel of this series, I think it reflects the spiritual aspect of the outdoors that so many of us seem to be drawn to, whether we are engaging in Type 3 fun or otherwise 😉 I found Paul a very charismatic and interesting character, and I like the narration.

Thanks Saint E. I hope everyone doesn’t take my comment about the burning kayak to seriously. Bryan and I are fine with feedback. We appreciate. And there are some things we both know we could do better and are working on as we move forward — a lot of those have come from friends and people watching…but I just really disagreed with the commenter above. We were telling a story about how Paul lost his father. Peppy isn’t the right tone, sorry. We worked with Paul to get his story right. Paul was stoked. So that makes me stoked.

What I’m trying to say. If you’ve got a suggestion don’t hesitate to share. I’m usually pretty nice.
